Q: What does the WSA stand for?
A: The WSA stands for the Wagner Student Association. We are the official voice of the Wagner student body and function as an umbrella organization for student groups. In addition, the WSA serves as a liason between students, faculty and administration, and medium of communication amongst students.

Q: How do I get involved with the WSA?
A: There are many different ways and opportunities throughout the year to get involved with the WSA. The WSA holds events throughout the academic year that need assistance in planning and execution. Additionally, you can enhance your own personal area of interest in countless student organizations. And, as always, feel free to reach out to any of the WSA board members if you have specific ideas. Below is a list of the few events the WSA organizes:
-Orientation Retreat, August and January
-Welcome Reception, September and January
-Wagner Picnic, September
-Faculty-Student-Staff Social, Sept and January
-Town Halls, November and March
-Happy Hours, Every Friday
-Dean's Breakfasts, three or four per semester
-Intramural Sports/Sports Committee, fall and spring leagues
-Social Networking with Columbia (SIPA), New School (GPIA)
-Wagner Ski Trip, January or February
-All-University Games, mid-February
-Year-end Party, early May

Q: How do become a member of the WSA Executive Board?
A: The WSA Executive Board elections for all non-graduating students typically take place in April, while nominations are accepted after Spring Break.

There are 12 available positions:
President, Vice President for Administration, Vice President for Public Affairs, Secretary, Treasurer, Senator, Ombudsperson, Webmaster, and 4 Program Representatives: Health, PNP, International and Urban Planning (nominations to program representative positions are available only to students from their respective programs).

Q: How frequently are the WSA general meetings held?
A: The WSA holds meetings on a monthly basis. The meetings are open to the entire student body and a representative from each student group is required to attend. An agenda typically includes updates from the WSA Executive Board, updates from student groups, and open discussion on grievances and other issues. Below is a schedule of the WSA meetings for the academic year:

Q: When and where are the WSA Happy Hours?
A: The WSA Happy Hours are held almost every Friday during the academic year from 5:30 PM-9:00 PM at Slainte (located on Bowery between Houston and Bleecker St).

Q: When does the budget process for student groups take place?
A: The budget process begins the summer before the current academic year. For example, the budget process for academic year 2009-2010 began in the summer of 2009. In early August, each WSA student organization submits a budget and a request for funding to WSA. The WSA Appropriations committee reviews the funding requests and develops a draft budget for all student organizations under WSA. In early September, WSA is informed of how much funding it will receive for the year and finalizes the budget. The final budget is voted on and approved at the first WSA General Meeting of the year in mid-September. In January, WSA conducts a mid-year review and determines if any funds need to be reallocated. Q: What is the purpose of the Town Hall meeting? When is it?
A: The Wagner Town Hall meeting occurs once every semester and is the responsibility of the WSA Ombudsperson to organize with the Dean of Students. It is a forum that allows students, faculty and staff to come together and voice their opinion on the issues being highlighted in the meeting. The issues addressed in the Wagner Town Hall are chosen based on student feedback. The Wagner Town Hall is one of the few chances for the entire Wagner community to come together and engage one another in conversation that can positively affect the school, and is therefore very important for students to participate. Q: How do I register a new student group?
A: When students with a shared interest are unable to find an existing student group at Wagner to satisfy their needs, they may form a new school group by submitting the following to the WSA Executive Board:

-A completed WSA New Student Group Proposal Form
-A detailed charter for the new organization, including its purpose, organizational structures and provisions for elections and other procedures
-A supporting letter from a Wagner faculty member currently teaching courses.
-A petition with signatures representing 5% of the enrolled Wagner student population supporting the formation of the organization. Those signing should be doing so as potential participants in or supporters of group activities by such time as the group is granted probationary status.
-A completed Program Overlap Evaluation form.

Q: How does my student group obtain a website? a listserv?
A: Student groups must register with The Office of Student Affairs before requesting a webpage, e-mail address, or listserv. The registration forms are available from the OSA office on the 7th Floor of Kimmel. They will need to be filled out and signed by a Wagner Administrator. For more information, visit www.osa.nyu.edu.

Each student group at Wagner is allocated an informational web page on the WSA site. Email wsa.webmaster08@gmail.com to request a page for your group. Click here for a directory of student group web pages.

Each student group at Wagner is eligible for one NYU e-mail address and listserv to communicate with members.

Q: How does my student group make room reservations?
A: To make room reservations, student groups have several options:
-Kimmel: Once you are registered with the OSA, two representatives from your club will be able to reserve rooms at Kimmel.
-Puck: All student groups can reserve rooms at Puck. First each student group must email contact information for two group leaders to Jenny Vazquez-Akim. Those two groups leaders will then be able to reserve the Puck Student Project Rooms
-Bobst: Any NYU student can reserve a room at Bobst Library.

Q: What is the best way to advertise my student group's events?
A: You can utilize the bulletin board in the computer room and on the lower level of the Tisch building to post information about events and activities. You can also utilize various listservs. Please see below for listserv guidelines.

Q: Are there any guidelines for using the listservs?
A: The WSA manages four listservs:
Wagner-WSA is the main forum for posting public service-related events. A maximum of two e-mail notifications about an event can be circulated through this listserv (this includes co-sponsored events).
Wagner-Wants is a general classifieds section. All listings regarding non-public service related events, school inquiries, as well as items for sale or purchase should be posted here. This forum is optional and students must 'opt-in' by subscribing to this forum through their NYU Home page.
Wagner-Discuss is a forum to discuss topics from public service to current events. Magazine articles and other inquiries that lead to discussion should be posted here. This forum is optional therefore students must 'opt-in' and subscribe to this forum through their NYU Home page.
Wagner-WSA-Jobs is a job forum. Please post job listings here. This forum is optional therefore, students must 'opt-in' and subscribe to this forum through their NYU Home page.
